Editorial

As a slight change from our normal articles restricted to considerations of the ASL software, this issue of Random Vector features two articles by Dietrich Trenkler who is involved in statistics education at the Economics department at the University of Osnabrück in Germany. He uses APL in a course which complements and gives a deeper treatment to material covered in a one year introductory course in Statistics. His article 'Simulating Sampling Distributions' hints at the lively nature of the course and students. Dietrich also holds regular courses in APL for students who will be using APL when working towards their diplomas.

As far as the ASL software is concerned, this issue of Vector should be accompanied by an order form for the first two volumes of ASL to be ready for distribution. We cover the presentation made by Alan Sykes at a recent BAA meeting regarding availability and distribution of ASL software. If you want to order ASL software, you can also contact Alan Sykes at the address below.

Finally, I guess it was inevitable that errors would creep into Random Vector and the last issue found us wrongly attributing the ownership of the BATS software. The error was compounded by the fact that BATS is actually correctly listed in Vector's product guide! By way of apology, I have included some brief details of the BATS software to put the record straight.

As usual, I give contact addresses for the ASL Management Committee:
