The incoming BAA Committee were introduced to those present at the AGM. Graham Parkhouse and Adrian Smith were not present, but the other committee members made brief statements about their planned activities for the forthcoming year. Each Committee member asked for suggestions about what the members wanted. Extracts from these statements follow:
Peter Branson (Activities)¶
Peter canvassed attendees for suggestions and ideas on future activities and stressed the importance of the membership making suggestions for meetings and talks. Amongst the ideas mentioned were: another Vendors meeting; progress on APL standards; meetings for educationalists; review of second generation APLs.
David Eastwood (Technical)¶
David stated that he would continue to be involved with the planned statistics conference, and also that he saw the Technical Officer as filling a support role for the Activities and Journal Officer.
Alan Sykes (Education)¶
Alan said that he hoped to continue his activities as last year. A number of initiatives were only now bearing fruit - notably publication of articles covering APL. He would continue with Education Vector and was involved in organising the Statistics Conference.
Peter Donnelly (Chairman)¶
Peter saw a major part of his role in 1989/90 as ensuring that the BAA administration improved, and also that Vector appeared more regularly.
Jonathan Martin (Publicity)¶
Jonathan hoped to ensure that BAA meeetings were included in the listing sections of the computer press and to try and recover lost membership.
John Sullivan (Treasurer)¶
John also saw the drive to regain lost membership as an important part of his function.
Jill Moss (Recruitment)¶
Jill endorsed the comments of Jonathan and John and stated that she hoped to turn around the recent trend in membership levels.
John Searle (Projects)¶
John hoped that his year of office would see the BAA funds halved and the members happy with the way the money had been spent.
