Editorial¶
Welcome to Education Vector once more. The good news is that Education Vector is to be a regular feature of each issue of Vector. The bad news is that Norman Thomson is no longer Education officer, and as the new incumbent, I must take this opportunity to thank him for all his hard work. I am sure that Norman will continue to play a vital role in the future developments of APL in Britain, and that future pages of Vector will be blessed by his erudite contributions.
The use of I-APL in schools continues to grow. During the summer, two courses were held, one masterminded by Norman in Winchester, and another one in Swansea. As a result, I-APL has been introduced to a number of comprehensive schools and colleges. It is important that Vector recognises this growth of application. Hence the new committee decided that Education Vector would be designed in the form of a supplement that can be mailed directly to the growing numbers of people on the I-APL mailing list in Britain.
The nature of this supplement in the future is largely up to you, the reader. In this first issue I hope newcomers to APL will find the first of a series of articles of benefit in explaining some elementary aspects of APL, and at the same time presenting some useful functions. Also there are reports from John Clift who attended the course at Winchester, and from Bruce Dickson at Mill Hill School. In addition, Anthony Camacho brings us up to date with I-APL news.
I extend an invitation to all readers of Education Vector and Vector to submit articles, letters, and comments for future editions of Education Vector, so that it can truly be a successful forum for the exchange of ideas on the use of APL in all spheres of education.
