Prize Competition Result: APL86 Photo Caption
Vector 4:2, page 90
Transcribed from the printed issue; not yet reviewed. Read it in the PDF of the issue, page 90
Apologies to those of you who have been patiently awaiting the result of this competition; for one reason or another it got held over from one issue of Vector to the next, to the next, …etc.
The four photographs labelled A, B, C and D were taken at APL86 and readers were invited to supply suitable captions. Sam Sexton suggested that photograph A should read:
- A
- “You certainly need these rose-tinted glasses for looking at APL2!”
Sam’s entry was submitted on an I P Sharp Associates compliment slip. Iain Hunneybell thought that photo C should be captioned with:
- C
- “Speak no evil, Hear no evil, See no evil.”
Gareth Brentnall submitted the following three entries
- A
- “I didn’t think these new-fangled graphics would help me work out what dyadic transpose did on a 3-D array!
- C
- “God, is it encode or decode? I hope he doesn’t ask me.”
- D
- “I knew rotate extended to tables, but chairs?!”
Unfortunately, there were no printable entries for photograph B. Sam and Iain each receive fourteen pounds, and Gareth wins a star prize of twenty-two pounds.
