The Amstrad PC1512

I have just had a very brief encounter with this machine. It looks and feels rather smart, although the screen resolution (in monochrome white) is only as good as the (standard) IBM colour monitor. However it does make quite sensible use of grey to imitate colour effects.

It ran APL*PLUS/PC with no problems, including screen hardcopy on the Amstrad printer. I am told that you can swop the character ROM, but obviously I was unable to check this! It benchmarks at 2.4 times the speed of a standard PC (i.e. a little below an AT), running the ‘FN 1000’ test in 15 sec.

Further details in next issue.
