The VECTOR working group welcomes correspondence on any topic affecting the APL community. All such letters should be addressed to the Editor and should indicate whether they are intended for the general or the technical section. Letters containing APL code will normally appear in the Technical Section of VECTOR, and authors are asked to observe the requirements on the inclusion of APL code stated on the inside cover. Sir: The October VECTOR arrived by surface mail yesterday. My big disappointment was not seeing “a better way” to carry depreciation forward in response to the July STMBABW. I couldn’t find one, myself!

I took a crack at the prize competition even though the problem came after the deadline. I’ll send it anyway so you know people are reading!

Thanks to all who have contributed to putting out VECTOR.

Yours,

Curtis A Jones,
[address omitted]
California.

Ed: Apologies for the late arrival of your copy. Regular readers will have observed the long-standing tradition that VECTOR is distributed on or about the 75th day of the relevant month! We obviously cannot control the performance of the postal authorities. To their credit they delivered your reply within a week even though is was mis-directed via Jakarta!

We did have specific problems with the distribution of VECTOR 2, No. 2 as our normal mailing facilities were withdrawn at short notice and had to be replaced by a specially enrolled sub-committee of “volunteers”. You might also be interested in our new arrangements to accept subscriptions in dollars (see British APL Association News).

Finally I would like to second your thanks to all those who have contributed to VECTOR over the last couple of years. By my estimation we have had 86 contributors since VECTOR was established and many of those have been new names to most of us. Please continue sending in your contributions.
