Nominations for the British APL Association Committee¶
Our Constitution requires an Annual General Meeting to be held during May at which the results of the election of Committee members is announced. Anyone may nominate any willing member for election to any Committee post. A postal ballot of the membership is held if there is more than one candidate for a post. To allow for an election nominations must be received by 18 December. Nominators and nominees should be paid-up members of the Association.
In most years we have difficulty in filling all the posts so will welcome new nominees. If you might be interested in serving, do please approach any of the committee informally. The amount of effort required depends on the post but can be adjusted to suit the holder. Most Committee business is transacted by e-mail and expenses are paid when a face to face meeting is necessary.
If you have a brilliant idea for an activity to be undertaken by the Association the Committee has the power to co-opt officers to undertake jobs not currently defined. If you are interested contact any member of the current committee who will be delighted to hear from you.
Help Wanted¶
At a recent meeting of the Vector working group it was agreed that we ought to put together a general purpose guide to APL. The guide should give the books available and their sources, reviews of the various interpreters, help in getting the APL characters displayed and printed and even how to get your keyboard labelled with the APL character set.
We would be grateful to hear from anyone interested in contributing to the effort or if you have comments on how worthwhile such effort would be, particularly if you could help to make it more worthwhile.
We would be particularly interested in your views if you have experience of teaching APL to schoolchildren; we are very keen to help anyone who has tried to do this and is willing to try again.
Please contact me, Anthony Camacho, [e-mail address omitted] or at [address omitted] or on [telephone number omitted] and I will pass on contact details to the other interested members of the working group.
