Present: Dr Alan Mayer, Nicholas Small, Anthony Camacho, Dr Ian Clark, David Eastwood, Jon Sandles, Duncan Pearson, Sylvia Camacho.
Apologies were received from Jonathan Barman.
George MacLeod arrived after the AGM.
No ordinary members of the Association accepted the invitation to attend the AGM.
Minutes of AGM 27 May 1994 were agreed
The Chairman, Dr Alan Mayer, thanked all members of the Committee for last year’s work. Resignations were accepted with regret from Jonathan Barman and Duncan Pearson, Alan expressing the hope that they would feel able to rejoin the Committee next year when their pressure of work may lessen. (It was learned later from George MacLeod that he also would be unable to serve on the Committee this year.) In his review of the year the Chairman said that he felt the Swansea Conference workshop and the single day workshop had been well received although these experiments had shown where the organisation of such events could be improved. He regretted that other London meetings had had to be cancelled. This arose because no one could be found with sufficient spare time to make the necessary arrangements. He felt that the Association must look for some other way to find volunteers able to do small amounts of work, not necessarily requiring attendance at Committee meetings. In particular he would like to discuss the possibility of exploiting electronic information exchange and conferencing. The Chairman commended the Vector Working Group for the continuing excellence of the journal which is undoubtedly valued by the membership, of which more than half are overseas members.
Anthony Camacho, the editor, said he felt there was no need to make any special report. The Readership Survey had not called for any striking changes. The Vector working group usually finds that there is at least enough material in hand to fill half of the next issue when they meet at the beginning of each Vector quarter.
Dr Ian Clark, editor of Education Vector, pointed out that this, although included within the main journal, has also an independent mailing list which represents a potential growth area for Association membership among non-career programmers. Ian also has the use of a Macintosh based mailing list which he would like to put at the service of the Association.
Jon Sandles, recruitment officer, said that he feels the World Wide Web would be a good recruitment medium and would like to see a sub-group of the Vector working group set up for this purpose.
Nicholas Small, the Treasurer, presented the accounts. He expects these to be audited in time to be published in Vector 12.1. Nicholas Small said that he intends to approach John Sullivan and expects to obtain his agreement to act as Auditor for 1995/96.
The only nominations received for the election of officers were those from within the 1994/95 Committee, of which seven members offered to stand again for the same posts. There thus remain three vacant posts: Technical, Activities and Projects Officers.
Since the AGM Dave Ziemann and Ray Cannon have agreed to advise on, install and maintain the Association’s entry on WWW and they have been co-opted onto the Committee.
